Can You Drink Coffee with Veneers?

If you’re a coffee drinker, you’ve probably already noticed that your regular cup of joe has a bad habit of lingering on your teeth long after you’re finished. That’s because darkly colored beverages can stain your teeth, no matter how well you brush and floss. But what about if you have veneers? If you’ve been considering getting these beautiful restorations, here’s what you need to know about keeping them looking great for years to come!

Veneers and Stains

Veneers can instantly change the shape and size of your teeth, as well as close minor gaps. They can also be customized to the exact shade of white you’ve always wanted. Thankfully, they’re also stain resistant, so they won’t absorb color from foods or beverages as easily as your untreated teeth would. But that doesn’t mean they don’t discolor at all. To prevent this, it’s important to do the following:

  • Follow any dark colored food or beverage with a glass of water to rinse them.
  • Brush with a non-abrasive toothpaste twice a day; floss once a day.
  • Visit your dentist twice a year for your bi-annual exam and cleanings.
  • Never smoke or use tobacco products.

Other Tips for Keeping Veneers Stain Free

Unfortunately, unlike natural enamel, you cannot whiten your veneers with professional or other types of whitening products, so it is important to keep them properly cleaned.

Furthermore, it is important to note that temporary veneers that are placed on your teeth before your permanent veneers are ready can stain much easier. Thus, be very careful with what you eat while you wear them. Most patients only need them for about two weeks, but you can still cause significant discoloration in that time if you aren’t paying attention.

Remember, veneers are a great way to get your teeth the shape, size and color you want, but you still need to protect them from staining. To keep them looking as good as new, avoid foods that cause discoloration and be sure to brush, floss, and visit your dentist regularly.
