Some Helpful Tricks for Wearing Braces to Work
December 15, 2023
Often enough, metal braces are linked to youth. It’s usually kids and teens who get the (in)famous brackets and wires. Still, perhaps you need this appliance as an adult. That means you’ll be wearing braces to work – a slightly unusual scenario. Luckily, it’s not hard to manage such a situation. Your Palm Bay dentist will even offer you some help. So, then, here are four useful tricks for dealing with metal braces in the workplace.
Be Careful of What You Eat
True, you can eat with braces right after they’re placed. Even so, try to be careful of what you eat for the first few days. Your teeth will feel sore as they adjust to the braces’ presence.
In particular, stick to soft foods during your work lunches. These might include pasta, seedless bread, soup, yogurt, etc. Once you’ve passed the four-day mark, the soreness should start to fade. You can then graduate to more solid meals.
Use Wax to Fight Sores
While braces are meant to be gentle, they can irritate the soft skin in your mouth. (Especially if you’re still getting used to them.) In response, use quality dental wax to ease your discomfort. Good brands should be available from your dentist or local pharmacy.
Usually, you won’t always need wax for your braces. Your skin will slowly toughen until you don’t get sore spots. Before that happens, though, dental wax lets you avoid needless aches.
Rinse with Saltwater
Despite your best efforts, your braces may cause great irritation. Such pain would be distracting if you’re trying to work. Therefore, rinse your mouth with warm saltwater five or six times daily.
You see, saltwater rinses would solve your problem. They’d relieve your braces pain and allow sores to heal more quickly. Really, you just need a teaspoon of salt and one cup of warm water. You can then swish these materials, ease your soreness, and focus on your job.
Try to Stay Confident
Like many adults, you may feel self-conscious about having braces. They could strike you as childish and embarrassing. That said, you should smile confidently at your coworkers.
While your smile isn’t perfect (yet), there’s no reason to be ashamed of it. On the contrary, feel proud – you’re making a positive change in your life. That being the case, you’ll want to embody your commitment to nice teeth. The best way to do so is by showing off your grin.
While wearing braces to work may seem awkward, you’ll handle it well enough. Just remember to employ the tricks above!
